About the Artist

A ceramic artisan from Jingdezhen, China, specializing in the Jiaotai  (绞胎) technique.

Jiaotai is a traditional Chinese ceramic technique dating back to the Tang Dynasty, which became rare after the Song Dynasty due to its complexity. The technique was later popularised in Japan, where it became known as neriage. It involves combining multiple clay bodies to form patterns that run through the entire piece—from exterior to interior—ranging from cloud-like swirls to intricate, hairline details.

Made with clay, not surface decoration

Zhuchen’s layered texture cups are sculpted from layered colour—what you see goes all the way through.

Unique Jiaotai technique

Unlike painted pottery, these swirling designs run completely through the piece - inside and out. Each Jiaotai piece has its own unique pattern since no two clay mixings can ever be the same, just like how no two fingerprints match.

Handcrafted, one-of-a-kind

Zhuchen is one of the world-top Jiaotai artists. The method employs two or more types of clay to create designs, ensuring that each pattern is similar yet never identical, with motifs that flow continuously from the inside out and a distinctive layered texture.

Elevate your coffee experience

Each cup is truly unique, with its own subtle variations. As it’s handmade, you may notice tiny marks—these aren’t imperfections, but part of its charm.

Why Potari?

Thoughtfully chosen

We don’t believe in mass-produced decor. Everything at Potari is handpicked — not just for how it looks, but for the story behind it. Each piece is made by an independent artist, and meant to feel personal, not perfect. Just like your home.

Made by creatives, for creatives

Potari was started to support the kind of artists we admire — passionate, hands-on, often overlooked. When you buy from us, you’re helping creative folks keep doing what they love. That matters more than ever.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long will it take to get my orders

We aim to ship your order within 48 hours of purchase. Delivery times vary depending on your region, typically ranging from 10–20 days. For more details, please visit our shipping policy.

Do you offer free refund or exchange?

Unfortunately, unless the goods (i.e. the items you ordered) are damaged during shipping, we are unable to offer a free refund or exchange. In the event of damages, please refer to our return policy and contact us.

Are all your products available? What is made to order?

Due to their handcrafted nature, some of our products are only available in limited quantities and may sell out quickly. However, certain partnered artists accept made-to-order (or preorder) requests. In these cases, production begins only after the order has been placed, so a waiting time is required—usually between 2 weeks and 2 months. You can find the estimated waiting time in each product’s description.

Why are there black dots on the items I bought or in some of the product photos?

Due to the traditional handcrafting process, each ceramic piece may feature small, naturally occurring iron spots. These unique marks are a result of the authentic materials and techniques used—they are not imperfections, but part of the charm of handmade craftsmanship.

How much is shipping? Is it charged per item or per order?

We offer global shipping, with rates typically around $7 for the US, £5.50 for the UK, and similar elsewhere. The shipping fee is charged per order—not per item—so you can bundle multiple items together. Plus, enjoy free shipping when you spend over £65 / $85 in a single order. For more info, please refer to our shipping policy.
